HK Day 4

It was Sunday today and we wanted to explore more of Hong Kong side (we were staying on Kowloon side). We started with a visit to Stanley Market, frankly there is nothing much to do there except some tourist shopping and eating. CL and I like the relaxed atmosphere there and thought we should bring the gals there to experience. The last time I came was 10 years ago, I remembered getting there on a taxi and the journey was not long. This time, we took a public bus instead. It was a special service bus that has lesser stops and brings you to Stanley in the shortest time. The bus ride brought us through the Aberdeen tunnel, thru many private residences that looks atas. The houses also overlooks Deep Water Bay and Repulse Bay. And because the journey is along the coastal line, it was winding with many bends! Luckily we were seated nearer to the front and the turns took less than half an hour to go through. Perhaps the picturesque view of the Bay helps.
We alighted at Stanley Market terminal. The things sold were mainly for tourist, like what you see in Chinatown. Thinking Chinese New Year is almost 2 months away, I bought 3 cheongsam for my gals and my niece. The walk there was leisure and we took some pictures and went off.

Beginning of Stanley market

It was crowded but still ample space to walk around.

Back in Central, HK, it was already 3+ pm. Yes holiday sometimes also means having lunch at 3 pm and dinner at 8 pm. We decided to have roast goose for lunch. After much effort and time locating Yung Kee, the geese were sold out and only be ready after 5 pm. I spotted Tsui Wah Restaurant at the opposite and decided to hop over there. It will be more appropriate to call it a cha chan teng. This is the one which we were looking high and low the day before. I read good reviews about the food and think we shouldn't miss it. (And really the walking can be killing at times, thankfully my gals and CL made it)

Nice teh
Toasted to perfection and with condensed milk on top. Sweetness just right!

We decided to take the tram to The Peak Tram station instead of heading back to the hotel. It was our first time taking the tram. The stops were in the middle of the road and the trams are very small as compared to double decker buses. There is only one fare and you have to board from the rear and alight at the front, tapping your Octopus card or pay by cash before you alight. We managed to get the seats on top and enjoyed a short trip. However, there was no buzz to signal that you want to get off, the tram just stops at every stop and you have to alight once you are there. We missed our stop and went opposite to go back, wanting to alight at the right stop but we missed again. The tram was indeed very packed at the bottom and we literally have to bull-doze our way through. So we have to walk to The Peak Tram station on foot. It was tiring and because HK's terrain has many up slopes, our feet worked very hard.

It was crowded here. We bought return tram tickets packaged with Madame Tussads Hong Kong. The queue to get into the trams was about 15 minutes. The ride up was less than 10 mins and we managed to get seats. As it was up the peak, the track gradient is from 4 to 27 degrees. I took photo to show the gradient.

The brightly lit window is actually a residence next to the track.

We went straight to Madame Tussads straight away. The gals find its amazing to have people being 'waxed', they told they were real people. We had fun posing and also busying jostling with other tourists to get a good photo shot.

After much posing, we took a quick peek at the night view of HK from the Peak but it was simply too chilly. Made our way down and back to Yung Kee for our unfinished roast goose meal. We had to wait but it was rather fast, around half an hour. We ordered century egg, roast goose, a vegetarian dish and steam minced pork. The roast goose was not fantastic just ok, but the century egg was bagus! We even bought half a dozen back.

Roast goose, the sauce accompanying was nice.

The egg and ginger were both equally nice!
